So as I said before, I think there's four major groups to follow (italics is less concrete than the rest):
THE MAIN CAST
These guys are very introspective, usually stumbling into a conflict and having to solve it that way than actively seeking to right wrongs.
Arc 1
Arc 2
Arc 3
THE NATIVE ZIRCONIANS
These guys shape every major arc as much as or more than the Voidspawn.
Arc 1
- Dragons are supreme, roaming the world to Kingdom of the Dinosaurs. Bahamut runs a decent ship for them.
- Elves are in hiding, when Dai shows up they think they've got a messiah.
- Are dark fae here? Who knows.
Arc 2
- Dragons are getting fucked since Bahamut's death. There's unofficially some sort of treaty, but there's a lot of active aggression from elves trying to wipe them out. Tiamat offers them sanctuary.
- Elves are on the rebound, trying to end this shit for real. Dai encourage diplomacy, and she's ignored. Devix instead comes forward as a military leader, ready to end this. In time, Dai actively helps end Devix's raids, which of course just weaken her links with any of the more militant ones.
Arc 3
- Dragons are able to get a good foothold with a form of Bahamut back, but zeroes on both sides are fucking things up.
- Elves are largely exhausted and willing to make a deal, but zeroes on both sides fuck things up still a bit.
THE VOIDSPAWN
Every one of the Voidspawn is about forwarding their goal at any means possible, they're one of the big ignitions for the plot, duh.
Arc 1
- Corvus dedicates his effort to destroying Zirconia, and fails due to the geomancy beneath the surface.
- Shadow dicks around a lot, duh. It's possible this is the arc where he tries to make his family, just to save ourselves from an explosion of characters in the second arc.
- Umbra Obscura gathers freely available information.
- Oh right I should probably note Lugh here too.
Arc 2
- Corvus tries to break the geomancy beneath the surface, creating a bunch of chaos on the surface to distract from his efforts.
- Shadow probably takes a more assertive role, trying to be destructive because well it seems to be working for Corvus. He eventually loses heart, but it's an amazing coincidence he becomes a threat while Corvus is gone. That is, Corvus planned it all along.
- UO allows Corvus to break the seal, only to attack him afterwards and seal some of his power, forcing him to retreat and opening the caverns below for her inspection.
Arc 3
- Corvus is pretty buttmad after the last thing, probably actively seeking out a way to remove UO. He probably doesn't make it out of Eurasia alive, but he'll go down swingin'.
- Shadow starts this arc trying to be good instead. It's hard to say how much this sticks, especially with Corvus starting to crack.
- UO is probably a prime target for Corvus, not to mention she's probably hitting the limits of knowledge she can get while being nice. There's a good chance no one makes it any further.
THE AGENTS
These guys are largely reactionary as well, but they ignite some stuff themselves. BURN EVERYTHING was what I saying Arc 1
- Zero Hunter is busted out of the Void somehow after the Voidspawn show up, possibly by Shadow seeing how he has the interest in Dai/Karm.
- Weapon Goddess . . . I'll finish this later, I'll just send this so you have references so some new stuff I've written.
- Tiamat . . . Ditto.
- Fenrir eats stuff.
Arc 2
Arc 3
There's a few unaffiliated that have impact (Cim, Devix, Laidena) at some point, if I think of enough they might get their own section. Laidena's arc is mostly she and UO talk until UO's done talking then tries to stop her.
